About District 6950
The Nature Coast
Formerly known to boaters and other travellers as “the lonesome leg” of Florida, the area encompassing Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties is designated as “Florida’s Nature Coast.” This is where cute critters aren’t animated or mechanical, but are the “real thing” including 19 endangered or threatened species in their natural habitat. Thrilling water rides include aquatic and subaquatic adventures, in which the unpredictability and pristine beauty of nature provide the “thrills.” Here, quaint villages and Native American sites are the real thing, embracing some of the country’s most fascinating cultural histories and spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico stand in for the glare of neon in the evening sky.
The Sun Coast
Pinellas County is a beautiful peninsula located on Florida’s West coast and is the northern most County on the Sun Coast. The area is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the west and by Tampa Bay to the east. Pinellas is home to America’s Award Winning Beaches: Caladesi Beach, America’s #2 beach in 2006 and 2007 and Fort De Soto Park, America’s #1 beach in 2005 and Clearwater Beach, 1999 Best City Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. There are more than 35 miles of white-sand beaches on some eight major barrier islands and it is within minutes of many popular Florida attractions: just 30 minutes to Busch Gardens in Tampa and 90 minutes to Walt Disney World Resort, Sea World and Universal Studios Escape in Orlando and the Clearwater Municipal Marina is home to the largest, finest fishing fleet on the west coast of Florida.
